A crack is a symptom, not the problem
Waterproofing fails as a surface, not as a point. The membrane or coating on your roof was applied in one era, has baked under the same high-altitude UV, and has flexed through the same twenty-degree day-night swings every day of its life. When one crack shows, the material around it is the same age and the same condition. Sealing the crack treats the symptom while the surface keeps failing — which is why the leak simply moves.

How to tell which one you need
If your roof is young and one detail failed — a flashing, one outlet — an honest repair, done as a miniature system, is enough. If the coating is chalking, more than one spot leaks, or ridge cement is cracking, the surface has reached end of life and patching it is money into a failing membrane. A proper inspection tells you which side of that line you are on, before you spend anything.
